Body Piercing Aftercare - Please Read
approximate heaing times for various piercings are;
Ear lobe- 6-8weeks
Ear cartilage- 3months
Cheek piercings- 3-4months
Eyebrow piercings- 2-4months
Nose piercings- up to 6months
Remember these times are approximate and will depend on general health and weather you look after your piercing properly until healed, as with all body modifications infection is a risk, to greatly reduce the risk you must practice good general health.
Hand washing; hand washing is incredibly important to reduce the risk of infection, hands must be washed prior to touching the pierced area, in warm water and liquid soap, always dry your hands thoroughly with a clean dry towel or paper towel, this should remove most germs and prevent them being transferred to the pierced area.
Signs of infection; If appropriate aftercare is not followed infection may occur, the signs of infection are- swelling and redness that increase around the piercing, a serve burning and throbbing sensation around the piercing, increased tenderness and pain, an unusual discharge (yellow/green) with an offensive smell.
Ear and facial piercing aftercare; clean the piercing with a piercing aftercare solution we sudjest BPA sold in the studio, use this solution on the end of a cotton bud, clean the entry and exit points of the piercing with the cotton bud, once discharge has been removed or softened the jewellery can be moved and the area can be cleaned, this must be done, also use anti bacterial soap when in the shower/bath (not for oral piercings), this must be done twice a day do not forget to dry your piercing.
DO NOT; move, twist or turn your piercing whilst it is dry. If any secreted discharge has hardened then turning the jewellery may cause the discharge to damage the piercing and prolong healing time,
-Expect some swelling and soreness from your new piercing, any knock to the piercing can cause swelling or soreness to flare up again throughout the healing phase.
-Cartilage piercings occasionally form lumps known as granulomas, this is just trapped fluid and can be easily resolved using heat and pressure from a warm water compress once a day, replacing one of your daily cleanings.
